The winners of bit4coin's photo contest have been announced!
Artists submitted almost 600 pictures to the bit4coin Bitcoin Photo Contest, launched on September 8th. There were also an impressive 7,029 likes and 0.75 BTC received in tips. The top 50 photos by likes and BTC tips were then passed
to a jury of 6 bitcoin media sites, including BitScan. You can see all winning entries at https://bit4coin.net/bitcoin-photo-contest/winners
The winner of the 2015 bit4coin Bitcoin Photo Contest is an image called 'Sweet life. Bitcoin will be in chocolate' by a user named Nadin. Nadin convinced 4 of 6 jury members (BitScan being one of them) with these carefully crafted, delicious-looking bitcoin cookies. Nadin will now receive €1000 in BTC, delivered via bit4coin vouchers, which can be redeemed immediately for BTC at the current exchange rate.
Got to love these - great effort, Nadin!
The runner up is a political image titled 'Be Free from Financial Slavery' by a user named Oisin Akiboye Conolly. It depicts a graffito in a train underground with the text "$LAV€R¥ - B⃦e free'. It's a neat idea. Oisin further explains in the caption: 'This
photo captures the frustration of people in regards to fiat currency, and provides the solution: Bitcoin.' Oisin gets €500 in bit4coin vouchers.
Bitcoin is not only culinary, but inherently political
The 3rd place is tied between 4 photos, each with 2 jury votes. The bit4coin team decided to increase the total prize from €250 to €400, so each artist will receive €100. Check these entries out at https://bit4coin.net/bitcoin-photo-contest/winners
• An amazing set of 36 Retro Bitcoin Logos: These are free to use for the bitcoin community!
• Solar bitcoin: A gorgeous image with a physical image of a 'bitcoin' in the sun
• Bitcoin planet: 'To the moon!' was most likely the thinking behind oxiyusuf's submission
• Bitcoin billboard: A beautiful photo of an urban night scene with a bitcoin poster
Lastly, bit4coin decided to give a special award to one image: Alistair from South Africa submitted the image of a cupcake party early on in the contest, where his kids together with friends created Bitcoin cupcakes. He actually left another photo of the 'making of' in the comments! While the image did not convince the jury, he did amass 448 community likes over the course of 4 weeks – enough for the bit4coin team to create a special discretionary award for him. He also receives €100 in BTC.
'We're really happy with how the Bitcoin Photo Contest went, and could not be happier with the results,' says Dolf Diederichsen, CEO of bit4coin. 'We thank anybody who supported it, the artists, users who voted and tipped, and the jury members. While nothing is confirmed yet, we could see us running the contest again next year!'
